Allan Rock announces appointment of Sheridan Scott as new Commissioner of Competition

 

OTTAWA, November 10, 2003 — Allan Rock, Minister of Industry, today announced the appointment of Sheridan Scott as the new Commissioner of Competition, effective January 12, 2004.

"It gives me great pleasure to announce the appointment of Ms. Scott as the new Commissioner of Competition," said Minister Rock. "With her exceptional background and experience in both the public and private sectors, I am confident she will ensure that all Canadians continue to enjoy the benefits of competitive prices, product choice and quality services in this globalized world."

Ms. Scott has served as Staff Attorney at the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission, as Vice-President of Planning and Regulatory Affairs for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and, most recently, as Chief Regulatory Officer of Bell Canada.

Minister Rock expressed his sincere appreciation to Gaston Jorré, Senior Deputy Commissioner of Competition, who has been acting as Commissioner of Competition since August.

"I want to express my heartfelt thanks to Mr. Jorré for the stellar job he has done over the past three months, and look forward to his continued contribution to the Bureau," said Minister Rock.

The Competition Bureau is an independent law enforcement agency that promotes and maintains fair competition so that all Canadians can benefit from competitive prices, product choice and quality service. It oversees the application of the Competition Act, the Consumer Packaging and Labelling Act, the Textile Labelling Act and the Precious Metals Marking Act.
