Konrad von Finckenstein appointed to the Federal Court of Canada

OTTAWA, August 14, 2003 — Konrad von Finckenstein has been appointed a judge of the Federal Court of Canada by the Honourable Martin Cauchon, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada.

At the time of his appointment and since 1997, he was the Commissioner of Competition at the Competition Bureau Canada. The appointment takes effect immediately.

Senior Deputy Commissioner of Competition Gaston Jorré will be acting Commissioner of Competition until the Governor in Council appoints a new Commissioner.

The Competition Bureau is an independent law enforcement agency that ensures all Canadians enjoy the benefits of a competitive economy. The Bureau oversees the application of the Competition Act, the Consumer Packaging and Labelling Act, the Textile Labelling Act and the Precious Metals Marking Act.
