Software Claims Survey - IV. Conclusion

Previous Section | Table of Contents | Next Section

The Statistical Tables of Results in Appendix A show that there are significant infractions regarding operating system requirements, features claims and labelling requirements.

As indicated in the Compliance Strategy section, corrective actions will be initiated with the responsible Canadian company regarding any computer software that was found to be in violation of the Consumer Packaging and Labelling Act.

Partnership

Efforts will be focussed on working in partnership with the software industry, software associations, consumers and any other interested parties towards the development of industry guidelines.

Canadian software manufacturers, importers and distributors of computer software will continue to be contacted and kept informed of future activities regarding computer software and any marketplace trends that might be identified in the industry.

The computer software industry would benefit from having consistent and uniform national labelling guidelines to assist in addressing any software product claims and labelling that the industry may use for the sale of computer software in Canada.
