Window Retail Company

An investigation conducted by the Bureau found that the retailer was misrepresenting the availability of warranties in the industry. The retailer was claiming that it offered the industry’s best warranty for certain products, as well as the only transferable lifetime warranty. However, it was determined by the Bureau that this was not the case, and that other retailers offered similar warranties.

A Bureau officer contacted the retailer to inform its representatives of the concerns that this type of advertising raised under the deceptive marketing practices provisions of  s.74.01 of the Competition Act. The company agreed to refrain from stating that it offers the industry’s best warranty and the only lifetime warranty in future advertising.

The issue was resolved in November 2005.
