In February 2006, the Competition Bureau received a referral from Canada Border Services regarding the absence of mandatory labelling information for a shipment of 78 cartons of imported men’s shorts. The textile articles did not have a permanent label with information relating to the fibre content and dealer identity.
Subsection 11(1) of the Textile Labelling and Advertising Regulations requires that every disclosure label contain:
As a result of the Bureau’s investigation, the importer added a permanent label with the mandatory information of fibre content and his CA number to the textile articles. A CA number is an identification number assigned to dealers that conduct business in Canada.
This matter was resolved in March 2006.
