Ottawa, March 31, 2009 — The Competition Bureau is seeking public comments on its Draft Information Bulletin on Consumer Rebate Promotions, as part of the Bureau’s continuing efforts to ensure transparency and predictability in its enforcement policies.
The draft Bulletin outlines the Competition Bureau’s approach to interpreting the false or misleading representations provisions of the Competition Act, the Consumer Packaging and Labelling Act, and the Textile Labelling Act in the area of consumer rebate promotions. It also sets out best practices that the Bureau recommends businesses follow when offering rebates, both to comply with the law and to help consumers make informed purchasing decisions.
